Early August Report – Bank fishing on fire…

Julian Hawkins had a great bank session on the 4th, fishing an evening ticket he netted 8 Rainbows using floating line tactics using a GH Daddy from 5pm then changing to a GH mini cats whisker, for his last hour between 8 & 9PM.
While Jono Endicott had 13 fish to the net, he was using a Midge tip with flash damsels fished close and at speed to tempt the fry feeders!
Cloud cover or an early start has also been a factor with the fish moving into deeper water when the sun comes out & surprisingly calm conditions seem to have encouraged the fish in close to hit the fry. Bessoms and Ruggs certainly delivering top sport at the moment, but if you are prepared to roam, the banks at Cowmoor as well as Valentines & Arthurs bay are also producing good numbers of fish, while also offering variations and shelter dependant on wind direction.

SW Fishing for life Ladies had a good day

On Sunday 6th, SW fishing for life ladies had a great day from the bank, plenty of fish and smiles… (Feature photo)
Our own Trevor also had a couple of hours from the boat & found the fish just a couple of feet down & quite close in, he used an intermediate line & had his best fish of 4lb on a pink fritz lure.

Ben Lucas – Catch report 7/08/23

I arrived a bit later than I would have liked due to the B3227 being closed to find bright sunshine and a strong cold NW wind which didn’t feel that promising but it ended up being a fun evening’s fishing. Had one rainbow straight up at Rugs bay in the waves on a claret hopper on the top dropper. It then went quiet so I moved round to Bessoms where it was a lot more pleasant as the wind swung to SW and it felt warmer and some fish started to rise. Picked up a rising fish on a small diawl bach and then I switched to pulling a small hares ear body humongous with a white tail as I saw the margins were packed with fry – the trout loved it –  two in two casts and then the browny and lots of pulls and then a solid fish that I lost – it took off like a rocket ship and took me way into the backing and then came off as it turned and came back towards me. It felt like I had found the magic fly until I lost it somehow on the bank behind me. I will have to tie some more.
The rainbows were in fantastic condition – fish that took me into the backing with strong fast runs – you must have crossed them with bonefish 🙂
